The Mini Pyraminx is the 2x2x2 version of the original Pyraminx puzzle. This means it only has two layers with respect to each of its four axis.
The only moving parts of the Mini Pyraminx are the "trivial" tips. There are 4 of them, and each can be found in one of 3 positions: solved, twisted clockwise or twisted couter-clockwise. Overall this means that this puzzle only has 81 possible combinations and since these tips have no effect on each other solving it is just a matter of turning each tip to its correct orientation.
Most owners of this puzzle have created it themselves from other puzzle's parts or ordered it from a custom puzzle maker. Since it's so trivial it was never mass produced and no speed solving competition of it was held.
This puzzle is often confused with the Pyramorphix - a mass produced Mini Rubik's Cube shape-mod and the reason is clear - they look exactly the same! They turn, however, completely different. The Pyramorphix turns along 3 axis just like a normal Rubik's Cube, resulting in shape shifts when it is scrambled.
